The Paper Lantern began as a folder of half-finished essays on a borrowed laptop. It has grown only slightly since.

We publish one piece every Sunday — sometimes about writing, sometimes about a city, sometimes about whatever happened in the kitchen that week. There is no editorial calendar. There is barely an editor.
